Breed Your Mare

Here are some basic guidelines to help you through our breeding process:

STEP 1: Have your mare checked for breeding suitability. It is important for your mares to have a current reproductive exam, testing negative to breeding transmitted diseases and infection. It is a good idea to know before the breeding season begins that the mare you plan to breed is a suitable prospect. Will also help guide mare owners determining the mares ovulation and cycle. Saving you time and money.

STEP 2: Download our Breeding Contract and read thoroughly. Once you have read through our contract and find the terms satisfactory, download our Booking Form and return with the booking fee of $300 per mare. We require the completed Breeding Contract with the remaining $700 of the service fee before the mare is bred.

STEP 3: Breed your mare.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION: You will obviously have enlisted the services of a vet well versed in equine artificial breeding to inseminate your mare, so have your vet contact our vet! We use Moore Equine Veterinary Centre, and to save any miss communications, we at McArthur Farms support allowing the veterinarians to confer between themselves and decide when they need semen and shipping. At Moore Equine, Chris Berezowski DVM, DACT, DABVP (Equine) can be contacted at (403) 931-3343 for further advice and pricing. When semen has been ordered, he will contact us and we will endeavour to have the semen and contract details completed.

STEP 4: Congratulations! Your mare should be safely in foal. At this point, we will provide you with registry information for your pending foal. Alernatively, you can decide to wait until the foal is born to save the risk of losing your paperwork in the coming year. Let us know what you prefer and we will be happy to assist in any way we can.

Registry Information

Breeding your mare to one of our purebred Australian Stock Horse sires will result in a foal eligible for three (3) registrations. Two North American organisations: the American Appendix Association and the Performance Horse Registry; plus the Australian-based Australian Stock Horse Society Ltd, established in 1971, with a growing membership of over 9,500 individuals and in excess of 170,000 registered horses.

McArthur Farms will provide breeders with complimentary registration for their resulting offspring in the Performance Horse Registry, and provide all necessary documentation for registration with another body.

The McArthur Icewood Australian Stock Horse offers horse owners and breeders the opportunity to obtain Registry papers for their progeny produced with our ASH stud: Recording pedigrees and tracking performance records.

Registering your North American Progeny

3 Registries options are available for McArthur Stud Farms Select Studs

Option #1

Australian Stock Horse Society:

A) Purebred ASH Progeny:

Qualify for registry through the ASHS similar to Australian bred ASH progeny requiring a Freeze brand and DNA at time of registry. All breeding stock must be export approved by the ASHS. All of the Studs offered through McArthur Stud Farm are export approved. Complete ASHS details and forms available at www.ashs.com.au

B) Part Bred ASH Progeny :

It has always been important to the ASHS that other breeds do not dominate the traditional and heritage lines, or change the type, temperament or versatility of the breed. However the ASHS like many performance horse breed societies does support its members to retain the option to select from outside breeding stock of their choice allowing the produced progeny to be bred into the stud book through a First & Second Cross registration. All breeding stock must be export approved by the ASHS. All of the Studs offered through McArthur Stud Farm are export approved. Complete ASHS details and forms available at www.ashs.com.au
