2013 MANE Event at Westerner Park in Red Deer AB

The 2013 MANE Event at Westerner Park in Red Deer AB. Canada kicked off its 10th year of offering equine education, top level clinicians and a huge equine trade show to the equine enthusiasts who come from across Canada and the US. There was non-stop action all day in the two arenas which offered clinics including jumping (George Morris), dressage (Tom Dvorak), reining (Craig Johnson), gaited horsemanship (Caroline Hoffman) and horsemanship (Steve Rother) while the two lecture halls featured presentations on equine nutrition, dentistry and saddle fitting as well as a reproduction and breeding presentation by Ann Egan. ASH booth- RevThe event like those from previous years offered the crowds access to all breeds and all sports, it remains the top Western Canada one stop shop for any equine enthusiast. For us at McARTHUR STUD FARM this year’s Mane Event marked our return to the event since 2010.

Again we were impressed as the attendance to the event were once again record setting on all 3 days and the mood was festive and fun. Our booth enjoyed visits from many new and familiar faces all of which had genuine interest in the Australian Stock Horse breed. It was clear that our farm was remembered from when we last attended the event in 2010 when we presented the imported Australian Stock Horse (ASH) stud CADABRA marking the first time the breed was ever presented in Canada. From this humble beginning our farm was thrilled for the remarkable opportunity to be able to present our own locally bred Australian Stock Horse ‘YAHOO IGLOO’ born and raised on our farm right here in gorgeous southern Alberta. This filly is out of our imported mare CONDAMINE GLEN IDOL, sired by CADABRA. ASH MANE EVENT 1-RevThroughout the weekend YAHOO IGLOO displayed her placid, agreeable temperament and displayed her ability to carry herself well under saddle in this new environment without incident. YAHOO IGLOO proved herself to be a fantastic ambassador for the breed as she was unflappable even with the added energy of flags, wagons, costumes and mules. This young mare is everything we are striving to achieve in our breeding program.

We are proud of this young mare and know she will be a huge influence on our stud in the future. Watch for the Australian Stock Horse breed at the Mane Event in 2014 event as plans have already begun for our farm supported by outside ASH breeders and owners to once again enter the demo ring.
